Insurance
Income Protection Benefits
TCU provides Basic Life and Accidental Death and Dismemberment (AD&D) insurance at no cost to eligible employees.
Basic Life Insurance
- Available to employees who work at least 75% of full time.
- Provides $25,000 in coverage or one times your annual salary, whichever is greater.
- Premiums are paid 100% by TCU.
- Benefits reduce by 50% at age 70, but not below $25,000.
Basic AD&D Insurance
AD&D insurance provides financial protection to your designated beneficiary in the event of an accidental death. It may also provide benefits for certain covered injuries.
- Coverage equals one times your annual base salary, with a minimum benefit of $25,000.
Important: If your employer-provided life insurance coverage exceeds $50,000, the value of coverage above that amount is generally considered taxable imputed income. Consult your tax advisor for additional information.
In addition to employer-paid Basic Life Insurance, you may purchase Voluntary Term Life Insurance for yourself and your eligible dependents through Mutual of Omaha.
Guaranteed Issue Amounts
- Employee: $330,000
- Spouse: $50,000
Evidence of Insurability (EOI)
Evidence of Insurability is documentation of your health that may be required when enrolling in or increasing life insurance coverage.
You must complete EOI if:
- You request coverage above the guaranteed issue amount.
- You enroll after your initial enrollment period.
- You want to increase your existing coverage.
- You previously declined coverage and now wish to enroll.

- After 14 days: Mutual of Omaha will pay 60% of your salary directly to you. Your available TCU leave accruals will cover the remaining 40% through the end of your approved disability period.
- Without available leave accruals: You will receive only the 60% short-term disability benefit during the approved period.
